When you think of locating a missing person, your mind might drift to the news, where an image of the police, trying to find a person who had disappeared mysteriously. It might be that they were kidnapped, or ran away. Luckily, not every missing persons case involves criminal activity. In this month’s case, RGH Investigations had a client who gave us a unique request: to find a friend that helped change his life.
A Trip to Amsterdam
Travelling around the world gives us the opportunity to see new cultures, mentalities, and experience new adventures. There are countless people who travel somewhere unexpectedly, get stuck in a hostel, or a long layover, and meet someone who they befriend for life. It’s a warm, positive and hopeful feeling to have. About twenty years ago, RGH Investigations’ client, “Ron”, went on a trip from America to Amsterdam. While staying in a hotel, he befriended a worker. The two engaged in a deep conversation. Ron expressed he was feeling very low and wasn’t sure what to do with his life. He was unhappy, unfulfilled. His new friend encouraged him to think a bit differently and try a new perspective. Ron took him up on his offer, and went home with a warm feeling and a positive perspective.
From Rags to Riches
After returning to the US after his trip, Ron quickly became successful. He made his fortune in finance, and never forgot who gave him the words of wisdom to move forward.
Recently, Ron hired RGH Investigations to locate his friend in Amsterdam and reunite them. His intention was to provide compensation for the kindness and words of wisdom the hotel worker provided. He believed that without the advice of the hotel worker, he wouldn’t be as successful as he was. To start, RGH Investigations contacted the World Association of Detectives. The World Association of Detectives is an organization that helps private detectives worldwide with their cases. With the help of the Association, we contacted the hotel, which amazingly remembered him and retained his contact information.
We located the missing person, this friend from the hotel. He was living in a suburb, outside of Amsterdam. The head investigator hired a local, private detective in Denmark to visit his place of residence. In coordination with the private detective, we arranged an online call reuniting the two gentlemen right on the spot. Ron couldn’t believe what was about to happen. He was going to ‘see’ this person who influenced the course of action on his life. It was an emotional meeting, bringing back fond memories. But Ron still wanted more. He scheduled a trip to Amsterdam where the two met in person. A friendship that will last forever.
